In Some Big Trouble…?

Question by Ryan Broham: in some big trouble…?
I am 18 years old, and go to UNH. Over the weekend, I was arrested for unlawful intoxication. I was stumbling out of a convenience store, and was stopped by UNH police, who could blatantly see that I was intoxicated, and was arrested on just that one charge. I will be going to court January 13th, 2010, and am planning on taking advantage of the free legal services offered by UNH, which I am hoping will create some sort of plea deal that will get this charge dropped.

But, here’s the catch. In November of last year, while I was 17, I was arrested for possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, which were to be dropped if I didn’t get in trouble for another year. Then, in August of this year, I was caught at a party with a beer in my hand and charged with possession of alcohol. The court date for these two incidents to be brought back up is this coming November 24th. I have a lawyer for this case, who tells me I should be getting off fine from these charges, and they will most likely be dropped. All of these charges were placed on me by the police in my hometown of Keene, NH.

Now, my question to whom ever is willing to answer me is, will the case back in my home town be affected by the charges I received over the weekend at UNH? Also, will the outcome of this case be used against me in the case which occurred at UNH?

I know everyone reading this is thinking, “Wow, what an idiot…etc. etc.”, but if the first two arrests didn’t smack some sense into me, I know that this third one did. I feel so terrible disappointing my parents so badly, and would just like to be given one final chance to show I can be responsible. I am really hoping that I can get out of this through some sort of diversion program, and would even be willing to do an unbelievable amount of community service to get these irresponsible mistakes dismissed from my record. Thanks for your time, and please, don’t sit there and scold me for the stupid mistakes I’ve made over the past year, and tell me how I should have learned my lesson. I’m hurting enough as it is.

Start going to Alcholics Anonymous meetings right now, so you can have something to show the judge when you are in court. He will look favorably on your attempt to get help.
