“AN EVENING OF HOPE WITH CHRIS HERREN AND LEARN TO COPE”
Event on 2013-11-06 19:00:00

Learn to Cope, a statewide support network for parents and family members affected by addiction, is partnering with Hampden County District Attorney Mark Mastroianni and Hampden County Sheriff Michael Ashe to kick-off its newest chapter in Western Massachusetts with “An Evening of Hope” on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Basketball Hall of Fame! Chris Herren, former NBA basketball player and founder of the Herren Project which helps to raise awareness and assists individuals and families struggling with addiction, will be the featured speaker. Chris will introduce Learn to Cope’s newest chapter by sharing his powerful journey of addiction and recovery. The event is free and open to the public.

Currently, there is an epidemic of prescription drug, heroin, and other dangerous drug use here in Massachusetts and across the country. Learn to Cope has 10 active chapters in Massachusetts and a resourceful website with over 4000 registered members. These chapters and the website are free, confidential and supportive. Our chapters offer hope, education, resources and support. You can visit Learn to Cope’s website at www.learn2cope.org.

Learn to Cope offers peer support, which, in turn, assists a family in motivating their loved one to treatment. Many young people find recovery that can begin with their family having the support and education they need. This not only benefits the family, it benefits the community as a whole.

When Joanne Peterson founded Learn to Cope in 2004, she desperately needed help for her son. Today, he is in long term recovery.

Learn to Cope also is a pilot for the Department of Public Health’s Narcan program and offers overdose awareness education and Narcan training and kits that families can take home to use in an emergency.
