Why Are Doctors Reluctant to Treat Pain?

Question by hicktowngal: why are doctors reluctant to treat pain?
why are doctors reluctant, at least in my small town, to treat pain. i’ve had a diagnose from a major university that recommend analgesics. nerve damage and degenerative bone disease. is it they are afraid of the demonized opiates and might lose their licenses. i thought doctors went to school to help not cower in fear of the FDA. if you live in eastern oregon and know of a pain specialist please tell.

different ones have different effects: here’s an interactive site that tells you more detail http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/addiction/drugs/mouse.html

however, usually, the neurotransmitter (acetylcholine, eg) binds to receptors on the postsynaptic membrane (on the next cell), opens sodium channels on the membrane of that cell. sodium ions flood in, and the cell depolarizes (excitation) so that spreading activation can occur and the signal from the presynaptic cell is spread to the next one.

How Can I Change and Mould the Character of Boys in a Hostile Christian Community?

Question by KD53: How can I change and mould the character of boys in a hostile Christian community?
I have registered 28 boys between the ages of 5 and 15 in a community which is hostile to Christianity. In this era of terrorism, armed robbery, drug addiction, homosexuality, suicide bombings, and other social vices, my aim is to inculcate into them Christian virtues and principles so that their life style can have an impact on their peers and the community as a whole. What topics should I consider when counselling them? Any other suggestions or help will be highly appreciated.

HELP PLEASE!! Is There Any Way to Get My Get My Doctor to Take a Serious Approach to Managing My Severe Pain?

Question by Chris C: HELP PLEASE!! Is there any way to get my get my doctor to take a serious approach to managing my severe pain?
I’ve had a severe chronic migraine headache that has lasted for the last 8 months that has been one continuous, unremitting headache, not individual headaches that occur every day. I am disabled as a result of this (something all of my doctors have concurred with) and have tried every single preventative and abortive there is with no success, along with tons of alternatives like acupuncture. To make matters worse, I recently contracted Lyme Disease, which has been adding it’s own painful and debilitating effects.I vomit at least twice a day, and I have hypertension. But I am 15, so this means that often what I say to the doctors is just ignored. The only medication that has actually helped me has been oxycodone and hydromorphone. But when I went to the pain management clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital, I went through a 5 hour process to be told try to exercise and try relaxation.I almost cried.
