Question by barb e: How fair is it that a drug dealer and a drug user is sentenced the same?
I am doing a report in Social Service Law class and I wanted personal imput to report. I know it is to the drug dealers advantage to plea as a drug user in order to get a lessor sentence. fair/notfair? Technically what the drug user needs is treatment; keeping in mind that it will only work if they want it.

my girlfriend was convicted for possession of meth 7 years ago. she did some time in prison and finished a 2 year treatment program for substance abuse. she has been clean and sober now over 6 years and currently works as a residential technician at a treatment facility. she very much wants to go back to school and become a certified counselor specializing in addiction issues. she has turned her life completely around and wants to invest all of her time and knowledge into helping other addicts find recovery. what are the steps she should take to become a drug and alcohol counselor? is there a specific course outline to become one?

I’m from Albany, New York and I want to enroll in a addiction treatment program. I’m not an alcoholic or a drug addict. I just want to learn more about the nature of addiction treatment programs because I’m doing a documentary about it. It will really mean a lot to me if anyone replied. Thanks.

You’re doing a documentary? That’s really cool. Can I help? I know a bit about treatment programs because I researched about it (my brother’s into steroids). SEATTLE (AP) – An effort is building in Congress to change U.S. marijuana laws, including moves to legalize the industrial production of hemp and establish a hefty federal pot tax.

While passage this year could be a longshot, lawmakers from both parties have been quietly working on several bills, the first of which Democratic Reps. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon and Jared Polis of Colorado plan to introduce Tuesday, Blumenauer told The Associated Press.    Read more...
