What Can I Expect on My First NA Meeting?

Question by New Beginning: What can I expect on my first NA Meeting?
Serious answers only please.
I have come to grips that I need to seek help for my drug addiction. I am scared to go to my first meeting and I would really appreciate any information on what I can expect when I walk through that door. Will I have to talk to people or can I just observe? Can I talk when I am ready or do I have to talk to the group? I’m very nervous,….if you can’t tell.

Question by Eddy J: Is it easier to become an addict with Heroin than it is with Alcohol – or are they both the same?
I’m just trying to figure out why Alcohol is not banned but Heroin is. Many people can handle drinking alcohol on a regular basis without abusing it, but I’ve never heard of or seen someone who takes Heroin be able to manage it on a regular basis without becoming an addict very quickly.

Question by ayla dch: Can somebody here tell me how to find substance abuse treatment centers in Gilroy, California?
I need to find treatment centers because I want to inquire regarding the requirements of being an addiction counselor. I have a couple of relatives who have died because of drug use and I just want to help people like them so that the relatives of other drug dependents out there won’t have to suffer for the loss of their loved ones, just as I have.

How to Get My 19 Year Old Son to Move Back Home?

Question by %: How to get my 19 year old son to move back home?
My son recently moved out and has been living with a couple of his friends. He has a long history with drug addiction and on New Years he was arrested for possessing and being under the influence of that particular drug. My wife and I strongly agree that the best place for him is to move back home so we can help him recover and keep an eye on him to make sure he is not involved with his old habits. However, when I talked to him about moving back home it escalated into a fight and he resisted our offer by saying that he doesn’t need help, that he is healthy, and that he is an adult and free to do what he wants. I know that he does need help and is not healthy for a fact, but he stands by the adult argument. How can I get my son to move back home?
